This is an expansion of what used to be Burmese Prisoners Abroad (BPA). The group has started expanding and we need to make a common contact for poor prisoners from other Asian countries in Thailand jails.
The story is the same with all prisoners.
They left home towards a "richer" country where they could improve their lives. Their innocence, their trust and faith all collapsed when they found themselves charged and convicted with crimes they never thought existed as most of them come from rural backgrounds. Of course, some prisoners knew what they were doing, in majority these prisoners were framed into crimes.
The Asian mentality does not allow for the dishonor unwittingly inflicted onto the families and relatives when these men were charged with drug offences and in some cases they were framed into crimes they did not take part in them.
They made a difficult decision to run away from poverty, government officials' extortion, human exploitations and other inhumanities.
They left thinking that better was at the other side of the border, unfortunately their lack of experience woke them up abruptly.
PENPALS REQUIRED
We are hopping to find pen pals in English for these prisoners.
In majority the prisoners have learnt basic English with English spoken prisoners, but they are eager to learn more.
The ideal would be to have Burmese penpals but in 3 years I am still hoping that someone would turn up our way.
A list of prisoners can be found at Jeg's website
Short profiles can be read the BPA blog
